Chicago Bears: 5 players that must step up to beat the Packers

Damien Williams needs to help extend drives

One of the most important things to happen to the Chicago Bears offense is the success of the running game. They rank ninth in the league in rushing yards (634) and sixth in rushing touchdowns (6).

For the Bears to control the clock and keep Mr. Rodgers on the sideline, they need the running game to play well again. The leader of the unit needs to be Damien Williams.

Williams is a starting-caliber running back who was backing up David Montgomery. Now that Montgomery is out for a month, Williams steps up as the starter. He has experience doing that and had success in the Super Bowl so he shows that he can come through in a big game.

In the last two games, Williams has rushed for 119 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. He’s done well in Montgomery’s absence.

Another way Williams helps is by helping rookie Khalil Herbert. Herbert has also done well in his new role. Last week was the first time he spent a lot of time in the backfield. He ran for 75 yards. With help from Williams, Herbert can get a better understanding of what defenses are doing to him and how to beat them.

This is a big game for the Bears and Williams needs to come through and contribute a lot if they want to win.
