25 best Offensive Rookie of the Year winners ranked by playing career: 14. Eddie George – Houston Oilers

Eddie George seems like he’s a name lost in the history of this game, but when he was one of the most consistent running backs in the game for his entire career. He rushed more than 1,000 yards in seven of his eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans franchise (it was the Houston Oilers for just his rookie season). The only season he missed the 1,000-yard mark was the year he was on the cover of Madden, so take that for what it’s worth.

George was an absolute workhorse. He was built from a different era. Outside his one year with the Dallas Cowboys, he rushed for north of 300 attempts in every season. The Titans knew that George was going to be there for them when they needed it. Week in and week out, Eddie George got the Titans to a place where they could win.

George won so many awards in his career. He made the Pro Bowl team four straight times, he won a Heisman in college, and the very next season he went for Offensive Rookie of the Year in the NFL. His most impressive feat with the Oilers/Titans was never missing a start. So many running backs are forced out for a game here and there. It seems like there is nobody left who can actually carry the load for a long period of time. George was different. He was never hurt enough to miss a game, and his injuries never really impacted his production. George was a workhorse that might have been the most reliable running back during his era.
