25 best Offensive Rookie of the Year winners ranked by playing career: 11. Marcus Allen – Los Angeles Raiders

Marcus Allen had a complicated career. He is a Hall of Famer who was given up on by his team but turned it into a great second act. Despite the volatility of his career, his numbers still jump off the page. He rushed for 12,243 yards in his career, which is 14th all-time. He had 123 touchdowns, which has him third on the all-time list.

There were few people in the history of this league that was as good at finding the end zone as Marcus Allen. Even later in his career when he couldn’t get those 1,000 yard seasons anymore, he was still finding the end zone at a ridiculous clip. He had 11 touchdowns in his final season when he was 37 years old.

Allen was pushed out of the Raiders in favor of Bo Jackson, and he was forced to play the last five years with the Kansas City Chiefs. That doesn’t take away from his legacy for the black and silver. His 1985 season alone showed how good Allen was on the field. 1,759 yards and 11 touchdowns and adding 67 receptions and another 555 yards through the air is one of the best seasons we’ve ever seen from a running back. At the time, it was the record for most yards from scrimmage in a season ever.

Allen was someone who had an insane peak, and he lasted a very long time in this league. Taking those two things into account puts him high on any list, but he falls just short of the best to ever do it.
