25 best Offensive Rookie of the Year winners ranked by playing career: 3. Randy Moss – Minnesota Vikings

It takes a special, special player to break through on these running backs, and that is exactly what Randy Moss was. He is unlike any other wide receiver before him or since. He might be the most athletic player at the position, and he used those pure talents to score over and over and over again. In his rookie season after falling to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL Draft, all he did was catch 69 balls for 1,313 yards and 17 touchdowns. At the time, it was tied for the fourth-most touchdowns in a season ever. Not from rookies, from anyone.

Moss had a tumultuous career, but his overall numbers were insane. He wasn’t Jerry Rice. Nobody was, but Moss was second on the list in most receiving records. He had 156 touchdowns over his career.

He does have one record all by himself. Nobody has ever scored more than his 23 touchdowns through the air that Moss had in 2007. His New England Patriots went undefeated in the regular season, and Moss added another touchdown in the postseason. He fell short in the Super Bowl, but it doesn’t take anything away from the insane season he put together.

Moss was a personality that was hard to deal with, but what he did on the field made him worth the headaches. He was always the most talented player on the field. He had 10 1,000 yard receiving seasons. He’s fourth all-time in receiving yards. Who knows what happens if Moss could just keep it together, but maybe that also gave him his edge. It all worked out, and he is where he is based on a supreme talent level.
