25 best Offensive Rookie of the Year winners ranked by playing career: 20. Matt Ryan – Atlanta Falcons

What is Matt Ryan’s legacy in the NFL? There were times when he was a really good quarterback, but his best seasons came with some of the greatest playoff failures we’ve ever seen. He’s a former MVP when he had 38 touchdown passes and just 7 interceptions. He also threw for just under 5,000 yards. For every high moment in his career, the one that sticks in his mind was the lowest. Blowing a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl kind of sticks to him.

However, he has more than 57,000 passing yards in his career. That’s good for eighth all-time (at the time of this writing). He has 357 touchdowns, good for 10th all-time there. He’s done a lot in this league, and he is going to be very, very high on these lists by the time he retires.

So, where should we place Matt Ryan on the list of greatest quarterbacks? This is an entirely different debate. There’s no surprise he had some of the best talents in the game to throw to. It helps to have Julio Jones for most of your career. It helps even more to have players like Tony Gonzalez, Calvin Ridley, and Roddy White helped make Ryan a star.

However, we can’t take too much away from Ryan. He might become a Hall of Famer when it’s all said and done.
