2021 NFL Power Rankings Week 8: Titans make another statement, Chiefs continue free fall
By Randy Gurzi
For the past couple of weeks, it’s become apparent that Taylor Heinicke is not the long-term answer for the Washington Football Team. He continues to play well enough to move the chains but he seems better served as a reserve who can keep his team competitive rather than someone to rally the team around for 17 games.
On Sunday, he finished with 268 yards through the air and 95 on the ground with a touchdown and interception. He also had a celebration to forget as he dove headfirst into the end zone and ran to the crowd to do the Lambeau Leap. For a young man who grew up a Brett Favre fan, this had to be a great moment.
That is until he was reminded that a new rule makes the play dead as soon as a quarterback begins his dive. So the ball was put back on the one-yard line and the Green Bay defense forced a turnover on downs.
In the end, Washington fell to 2-5 as they were defeated 24-10 by Green Bay. Entering the season, the Football Team felt like a team to watch in the NFC East but things have not gone their way so far as they’re falling way behind in their division.
