NFL Trade Deadline player to watch No. 3: Trey Flowers, EDGE, Detroit Lions

Trey Flowers rose to prominence with the New England Patriots who took him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Arkansas. Flowers had 21 sacks and 164 tackles in four seasons with the Patriots before heading to the Detroit Lions in the 2019 campaign.

When he joined Detroit, it was a reunion for him as he was following Matt Patricia who was his defensive coordinator with the Patriots. In the past two seasons, he had 10.5 sacks in 21 games played and he continued to be a featured part of the team’s defense.

Now with Patricia out, Flowers has moved to an outside linebacker role and in four games he has 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He’s clearly better with his hand in the dirt and the Lions are a winless team that could look to see what offers are out there for the big pass rusher.

Not only would moving Flowers help them free up some cap space but it would also give them even more draft capital and after watching this team over the first seven weeks of the season, it’s clear they need as many picks as they can get.
