Dallas Cowboys player who won’t return No. 1: Michael Gallup

This is one that probably won’t be easy for any Cowboys fans to think about. Michael Gallup has developed into a legit No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL but unfortunately, he finds himself in a very crowded room which has kept him from putting up the numbers he’s capable of.

He did still reel off 1,107 yards and six touchdowns in 2019 despite missing four games with a knee injury but things have not gone his way since then. In 2020, the offense wasn’t as explosive after losing Dak Prescott and Gallup finished with 843 yards on 59 receptions.

With Dak back under center in 2021, there were high hopes that Gallup, Amari Cooper, and CeeDee Lamb could all flirt with 1,000-yards on the season. And he was off to a quick start with four receptions for 36 yards in their first game before suffering a knee injury that sent him to the IR.

Gallup is back at practice now and could return soon but while he was out, the offense proved they can get the job done and Cedrick Wilson, who filled in as the No. 3 receiver, was a huge reason for that.

Wilson has 14 receptions for 168 yards and two touchdowns on the season while proving to have a solid rapport with Prescott. His ability to play within this offense and keep it humming could be enough for the Cowboys to decide to sign him to an extension and allow Gallup to hit the open market – where he’s sure to get a large contract from another club.
