2022 NFL mock draft: Picks 5-6

5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Evan Neal, OT, Alabama

Even without a pick in the top three, the Jacksonville Jaguars still somehow manage to come away with the player that I think will be their top target in the 2022 NFL Draft.

When you make an investment in a player like Trevor Lawrence, you have to do everything you possibly can to protect that investment.

Evan Neal is a freak of an athlete playing the left tackle position, and this kind of pick would solidify a crucial position for Jacksonville for the next decade-plus.

There is no certainty at this point that Urban Meyer will be back next season as Jacksonville’s next head coach, but no matter who the head coach is, Neal would be the right pick in this slot.

6. Philadelphia Eagles: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

With their top pick in this mock draft, the Eagles took a QB of the future on offense. Here, they take someone who could potentially be the “QB” of the future on defense.

Kyle Hamilton might be the best overall player in this draft class, but he plays safety (primarily) and that position is a bit devalued in the draft.

Still, Hamilton is a freak of an athlete whose speed, instincts, and range make it seem like the Notre Dame defense has 12 guys out there a lot of times.

He’s picked off three passes so far this season but his impact on games goes far beyond just statistical impact. Hamilton can be used all over the defense as a weapon and would give the Eagles a much-needed difference-maker on the back end.
