2022 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 9-10

9. Washington Football Team: Malik Willis, QB, Liberty

The Washington Football Team found their way to the playoffs in the 2020 season, but that doesn’t appear to be the trajectory this team is headed on in 2021.

With only Ryan Fitzpatrick coming in as a reinforcement at the position this year, then suffering a long-term hip injury, Washington is back to the drawing board at the most important position on the team.

And you get the sense that this roster can feel it.

Malik Willis was QB1 in my last mock draft and for a variety of reasons. However, over the last few weeks, he’s been piling up some mistakes and while NFL Draft stock is more about body of work than the volatility of the week-to-week, it’s apparent that Willis — playing at a smaller school — needs to prove some consistency in his decision making and accuracy.

10. Miami Dolphins: George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

The Miami Dolphins are in such a weird spot.

This is not a roster that you look at and think, wow, that looks like a future perennial contender.

The Dolphins still have plenty of nice pieces but some huge question marks, specifically at QB with Tua Tagovailoa. Will the Dolphins swing a trade for Deshaun Watson?

This team clearly bought its own brand last season and thought it would be way better than one of the 10 worst teams in the league, so they traded their own first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles.

That deal is looking worse by the week.

Luckily the 49ers have also been bad this year and George Karlaftis is on the board here. He’s got a chance to be a truly elite EDGE player in the NFL with elite athletic traits, outstanding play strength, and dominant finishing abilities in the backfield.
