NFL: Ranking every quarterback midseason: 22. Jalen Hurts – Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts is so hard to evaluate right now. Is he actually pretty good as one of the rare dual-threat quarterbacks in the league, or is he bad when looking at traditional quarterback stats? Hurts could be the quarterback of the future for the Eagles, or he could be destined to being a really good backup as early as next season. There are whispers that Gardner Minshew is a possibility here, but the Eagles should at least give Hurts a shot to make this work.

The Eagles fanbase is especially split on what to do with Hurts. There’s a contingent that wants to keep him under center and see what happens, but there are others who want to find the next guy as soon as possible. To be fair, this is Philadelphia we are talking about. This isn’t a city that’s know for its patience.

Anyway, there is reason to be frustrated with Hurts. He hasn’t lit the world on fire. Nick Siriani has forced Hurts to win the job multiple times, including in the offseason when he was going up against Joe Flacco. He needs to be better at throwing the ball. He doesn’t see the whole field, and if his first option is covered, his second option is always the checkdown or to tuck the ball and run. He needs to see more than one receiver on each play. Once he learns about progressions, he will be a lot better for the Eagles.
