NFL: Ranking every quarterback midseason: 12. Matt Ryan – Atlanta Falcons

This might seem a little high for Matty Ice, but the Atlanta Falcons absolutely have one of the 12 best quarterbacks in the league. Matt Ryan started off the season rough, but he’s shown in the past few weeks that the Falcons made the right decision keeping Ryan on the roster. He has one disaster performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but outside of that, he’s been really good.

Ryan has thrown more than 40 attempts in a game four times going into Week 8. He’s getting up there in age, so the 40-yard bombs are likely out of his arsenal, but he knows who to hit when to make the best play possible. He’s finally figuring out how to make the best out of rookie tight end Kyle Pitts, and Calvin Ridley is back in the lineup making plays.

Atlanta’s wins this season have come against the Jets, Giants, and Dolphins, three of the worst teams in the league. Ryan’s newfound confidence has to come to fruition against some of the better teams in the league. Nobody is asking him to beat the Bucs and Rams, but maybe beat some of the playoff contenders to prove that he is still one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. Ryan’s MVP days are long behind him, but the days as a competent QB who can get the best out of their talent are here and thriving.
