NFL: Ranking every quarterback midseason: 2. Kyler Murray – Arizona Cardinals
Kyler Murray has skyrocketed up this list. He is likely the top candidate for MVP this season. Through Week 8, he has 2,276 yards, 17 touchdowns, 7 interceptions (although that one at the end of the Packers game was all on A.J. Green), 147 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns. Murray is doing it in every way possible, and the Cardinals are 7-1 because of him.
Murray is doing it despite getting hurt a few times, including an injury to his throwing pinky that sounds small but likely has a huge impact. He’s gripping the football with tape around the last finger on the ball. He’s just so good this season that it doesn’t matter.
He’s getting whoever is on the field involved in the offense. He welcomed Zach Ertz to the team with open arms. Green has revitalized his career after a disappointing final season with the Bengals. Christian Kirk is once against giving us vibes, and Rondale Moore has that huge explosive play every so often.
Murray is getting the Cardinals into scoring range time and time again. That is how James Conner is able to score eight touchdowns in eight games despite only having 358 yards. That’s the impact that Murray is having. He’s mixing his throwing power with amazing instincts and the threat he has with his feet. Murray is holding onto this second-place ranking by a thread because of how good the players at the top are, but there are no indications he is going anywhere.
