NFL: Ranking every quarterback midseason: 30. Davis Mills – Houston Texans

Davis Mills has shown some flashes that people didn’t expect. He had some really good throws against a good Patriots secondary a few weeks ago, but the overall product isn’t very good. The Indianapolis Colts destroyed him. He looked scared against the Arizona Cardinals. The Bills had four interceptions on 21 pass attempts earlier this season.

Mills isn’t the future of the Texans. That much is clear. They have enough future picks to find their QB of the future. However, Mills is the quarterback of the present. The Texans traded Mark Ingram last week, which shows they are taking away Mills’ weapons before the trade deadline. Everything that isn’t bolted down is getting traded. Cal McNair would probably trade his owner’s suite if it got him a third-round pick.

The Texans are a team in transition. Deshaun Watson is still on the roster for now, but he will never play another game in Houston. The Texans could trade him any day now. Mills is the starter barring injury, and it doesn’t seem like any more wins are coming this season. Could he find the magic he seemed to have against the New England Patriots? He needs to figure out what happened that Sunday afternoon to spur that performance and find a way to do it again.
