By trading for Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, the Los Angeles Rams have essentially confirmed that they are going all-in to win Super Bowl LVI.
It’s a frightening story, but Halloween is over, that is unless you are the Los Angeles Rams, who just traded for Denver Broncos All-Pro Von Miller. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that the former Super Bowl MVP will head to the city of Angels in exchange for a second and third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Is it time to start talking about the Rams as a super team? To make a long story short, yes. Pairing Miller with Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey? Yikes. Add that with a potent offense that can score at will? If this is not a sign of desperation to win a championship at this exact moment, then we really don’t know what is.
After seeing what Tampa Bay just did a year before, signing veterans and establishing their own super team that wound up winning the big game, it’s clear that the Rams are trying to replicate the same model. They have the arsenal to do so. Also, this gives help to the offense and Matthew Stafford, who should be thrilled to have another player on the defense that can help them get more opportunities to score.
The Los Angeles Rams are sending a message that they are serious about going to and winning the Super Bowl this year by trading for Von Miller.
With this trade, Los Angeles gets a player who has been one of the best at his position. Since entering the league in 2011, Miller has racked up over 100 sacks in his career and been a feared player for the rest of the AFC West. Also, as stated before, he won a Super Bowl in 2015 and was named the game’s MVP.
This season, Miller only has 4.5 sacks, but that’s primarily due to how the team around him in the only place he’s ever called home in the NFL has largely underperformed. But the Broncos are receiving some compensation for him. That said, it’s all about the Rams at this point.
A feared presence on the front line, an edge rusher with motivation, and a lockdown cornerback? That’s three premier players at each level of the defense. Also, Miller still has plenty left in his tank, and given who he is as a player and person, there is no question he wants another Super Bowl ring.
Von Miller is likely headed to the Hall of Fame, but if he winds up winning a Super Bowl ring with the now all-in Los Angeles Rams, it would be wise for the committee to start sizing up his jacket and carving out his bust.
The city of angels just landed another star, and Miller’s first game will be against a Derrick Henry– less Tennessee Titans team on Sunday Night Football. The lights are on Los Angeles, and the pressure has risen. They wanted this, and it’s on them to finish the job.
