2022 NFL Trade Deadline Winners and Losers

Winner: Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos general manager George Paton clearly loves making trades.

He’s made a variety of them since he arrived in Denver, and let’s not forget he was one of the GMs calling about Matthew Stafford early in the offseason when the Detroit Lions made him available.

In the couple of weeks leading up to the trade deadline, Paton made a number of deals:

  • Acquired EDGE Stephen Weatherly and a 2023 7th-round pick for a 2022 7th-round pick
  • Acquired LB Kenny Young and a 2024 7th-round pick for a 2024 6th-round pick
  • Acquired 2022 6th-round pick for CB Kary Vincent Jr.

In addition to those trades, Paton also made the aforementioned blockbuster deal involving Von Miller, getting 2022 2nd-round and 3rd-round picks in return.

Just for a frame of reference here, the New England Patriots got a 2023 6th-round pick for Stephon Gilmore, a player who was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 and is younger than Von Miller.

For a team that plans on going all-in to pursue a quarterback in 2022, at least from the tea leaves we can read, the Denver Broncos have more than boosted their available assets to put together an attractive package, whether they go after veterans or try to move up in the 2022 NFL Draft.
