Quarterly MVP Rankings: 3. Matthew Stafford +450

Before the start of the season, just about everyone was searching for the best narrative. That, of course, would lead many to believe that hey, if the right person has the right story behind them, along with great stats, the MVP award would be there’s for the taking. Matthew Stafford fit that description perfectly.

After spending more than a decade sulking away in Detroit, head coach Sean McVay reached his hand out and offered Stafford a lifeline of sorts. So far, everything has been exactly what McVay and the Los Angeles Rams have been looking for. The Rams have lost only once all year long and Stafford is the biggest reason why.

The multiple-time Pro Bowler ranks in the top ten in roughly every major statistical category. There’s no other way to put it, Stafford has been terrific. The Rams have run teams off the field all season long and were actually a bit surprised that his odds aren’t a touch better. Our guess for that is the 17 point beating they suffered at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals a few weeks ago.

Regardless of that, Stafford could end up winning the MVP hardware this season. The Rams have recently swung a trade for former Super Bowl MVP, Von Miller. What does Miller’s arrival have to do with Stafford you may ask? Well, the Rams could end the season with a 16-1 record thanks to Miller adding a few more wins. As a result, voters may have no choice but to hand the award to Stafford.
