NFL: Top 25 boldest predictions for the rest of the season: 10. Trevor Lawrence wins Rookie of the Year

This is one of the bolder predictions on the list. Trevor Lawrence was one of the favorites to win the award coming into the season, but his season has gone spectacularly wrong since his first snap. He’s only had one multi-touchdown performance, and the Jaguars are terrible. That performance came in a Week 1 loss to the Houston Texans.

Meanwhile, Ja’Marr Chase has been destroying the league. He’s third in the league in yards receiving, tied for fourth in touchdowns, and among receivers with at least 10 catches, he has the most yards per reception as the only one who breaks 20 yards every time he touches the ball. Right now, the race to win Rookie of the Year seems insurmountable.

Here’s the thing with voters. They have a very short memory. What happens in the first half of the season matters about half as much as it does in the second half of the season. Lawrence is going to have a phenomenal second half of his rookie season.

Marvin Jones has been gaining more chemistry with Lawrence. Dan Arnold has been a good acquisition for him. The passing offense is looking better, and it will start to ramp up as Urban Meyer doesn’t have another choice at this point. He can’t rely on the running game as he did in college. Take your most talented player, and make him great. Let Lawrence cook, and he will do great things.
