NFL: Top 25 boldest predictions for the rest of the season: 9. Geno Smith starts again

Russell Wilson is trying to go all in on this season as he proves to either the Seahawks or his next team he is still good enough to win a championship. He’s trying to come back as early as possible from his dislocated finger. Usually, when a player tries to come back too quickly, it ends up backfiring.

Nobody wants to root for injuries. It’s clearly an unethical practice, but using data to try and foresee injuries is another practice. Nobody wants to see Russell Wilson injured again, but it seems like he is trying too hard to be great, and that could lead to him taking risks.

Those risks mean a risk for injury. Too many risks is just math. That will lead to the Seahawks seeing the West Virginia University legend Geno Smith coming back out under center. He hasn’t been terrible based on his expectations, but the ability to win with Smith over Wilson is significant.

The Seahawks might still make the playoffs if all goes perfectly, but they have an uphill climb. Smith takes the offensive ability down a few notches, and adjusting to Wilson then away from Wilson then back to Wilson just to have him out again is too much for this team to overcome. Especially since the defense is having a lot of trouble keeping other teams from throwing.
