NFL: Top 25 boldest predictions for the rest of the season: 25. Kansas City Chiefs finish season with a record below .500
Let’s start off with a banger. The Kansas City Chiefs have looked terrible. If this was any other team in the league, it would be easily believable that the team starting 4-4 and tied for last place in the division would finish the season with a record below .500. They are allowing more points than any AFC team not named the Dolphins or Texans.
The Chiefs are leading the NFL in turnovers by a pretty wide margin. They have 19. The New York Jets, the team that employs Zach Wilson as its quarterback (when he’s healthy) only have 15 turnovers. Not only are the Chiefs running backs fumbling, but Patrick Mahomes is throwing a ton of interceptions. The Chiefs are fully aware of their turnover issues, and they can’t fix them. Travis Kelce fumbled in a crucial time against the Giants and Mahomes threw an interception in the red zone.
This isn’t even talking about the issues with the defense. The Chiefs’ defense is AWFUL this season. Frank Clark is a penalty machine and is hardly worth the contract he was given. Tyrann Mathieu is still a great safety, but people keep expecting him to fix this situation by himself. The Chiefs secondary can’t stop anyone, and teams are able to run all over them. There is no “stop” on defense this season.
The AFC West has too much talent, and the Chiefs schedule is too hard to get it together. Literally, the only “easy” games left on their schedule is the two divisional games against the Broncos, who currently have the same record as the Chiefs. Mahomes is going to take the playoffs off this season.
