When you look at the numbers for Justin Herbert, it would seem as though he tore up the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9. The second-year quarterback was 32-of-38 passing for 356 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He even added a rushing touchdown for good measure.

Even with those numbers, his Los Angeles Chargers were only able to win 27-24 and needed a closing seconds field goal to pull it off. Los Angeles was trailing Philly 10-6 at the half and a brief lead was taken away again as they were down 17-16 heading into the final quarter.

Los Angeles took a lead once again only to see Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith connect on a 28-yard touchdown to tie things up with just over six minutes to play. That’s when Herbert and the Chargers went to work as they killed all but the final two seconds on a 15-play, 64-yard drive and set up Dustin Hopkins for a 29-yard game-winning field goal.

The win was huge for them since the Chiefs and Broncos both won and the Raiders suffered a loss. That means the Chargers are tied with Las Vegas for first place at 5-3 and the other two clubs are 5-4 just a half-game back. Suddenly, that’s one of the better and more congested divisions in the AFC.
