2021 NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Cardinals, Titans overcome the odds
By Randy Gurzi
If Mike White would have kept playing, the New York Jets would have dropped 50 on the Colts. That’s a fact.
On Thursday Night Football, White continued his hot start as he was 7-of-11 for 95 yards with a touchdown pass to Elijah Moore. Then, he had to sit down and watch as Josh Johnson took the reins due to a hand injury that had him in pain — while also showing visible frustration that he had to come out.
Johnson stepped in and played better than expected. The journeyman veteran had 317 yards with three touchdown passes against one pick. New York still suffered a defeat as the Colts won 45-30. In the loss, the defense had no answers whatsoever for Carson Wentz who looked like the 2017 version of himself again.
What the Jets have to figure out now, is why every quarterback seems to move the ball in this offense except Zach Wilson. Mike White became an instant star when he went for more than 400 yards in a win over Cincinnati and now Johnson throws for more than 300 when coming off the bench.
As a whole, the two were credited with 398 passing yards but when you ignore the lost yardage from sacks, they had 412. For some comparison, Wilson has never hit the 300 yard mark and not only have both his backups, but they also had more than 400 yards through the air in the two games without him. That could be worrisome.
