The Philadelphia Eagles deserve a lot of credit for how hard they fought in Week 9. They were against a very strong Los Angeles Chargers team and took them to the final seconds.
Philly went into the half with a 10-7 lead and took another lead at 17-16 into the fourth. Los Angeles was back on top after a Justin Herbert touchdown but the Eagles tied it up with 6:07 to play when Jalen Hurts hit DeVonta Smith on a beautiful 28-yard touchdown.
Los Angeles then milked the clock as they went 64-yards in 15 plays to set up a 29-yard field goal from Dustin Hopkins. With only two seconds left, the Eagles were in desperation mode on the short kickoff and that was too ugly to re-live.
Head coach Nick Sirianni is still looking for his identity and while Jalen Hurts continues to show flashes of brilliance, he remains inconsistent — as does the team as a whole.
Now the Eagles are 3-6 and find themselves tied with the Giants and just a half-game ahead of the Washington Football Team. All three are looking up at the 6-2 Cowboys in a division that’s really bad outside of one team.
Of course, if it is of any solace, the Eagles are probably the second-best team in the NFC East. For whatever that’s worth.
