Allen Robinson, Wide Receiver

This has not been the season Allen Robinson expected to have. After having back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons, he expected to have a nice new contract. The Bears balked, though, and decided to just franchise him.

Many people expected Robinson to not sign the franchise tender, but he did so right away. Then there was talk about him holding out. Instead, he showed up on time and worked hard.

The regular season hasn’t been kind to Robinson, however. He’s on pace to have 576 yards, his lowest total in a full season since his rookie year. It is evident that he and quarterback Justin Fields do not have the chemistry they need to succeed.

There were rampant rumors that the Bears would trade Robinson at the trade deadline. The deadline came and went, but he is still in Chicago. Now, with about half the season left, Robinson, Fields, and the coaching staff need to do whatever it takes to get on the same page.

Will Robinson return to Chicago next season? If he isn’t, he needs to play well the rest of the season as an audition so another team can sign him as a free agent.

For the Bears, if Robinson and Fields form good chemistry, it could translate to victories. More victories may help save some jobs. More importantly, good chemistry helps in Fields’ development. Let’s face it, Fields’ development should be the most important thing the Bears could do this season.
