Odell Beckham Jr. will need to clear waivers, but if he does, he reportedly wants to form a dynamic duo with Davante Adams in Green Bay.

If the 2021 Green Bay Packers season is a “Last Dance” allegory, then Odell Beckham Jr. joining the team at midseason would be like when Michael Jordan pulled the X-factor Dennis Rodman out of his rut in Vegas to rejoin the team and win a title.

If Odell Beckham clears waivers, we finally have some clarity on where he would like to sign.

Clearing waivers is a hurdle, of course, but according to Jordan Schultz, Beckham’s preference is to join the fun in Green Bay with the Packers and reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers.

Again, it needs to be reiterated that, at the time of this writing, Beckham Jr. clearing waivers has not happened and is not a foregone conclusion.

If a team like the Seattle Seahawks wanted Beckham badly enough, they would have to pay the remaining $7.25 million of his 2021 salary to get it done.

Then again, the Seahawks might be in their own version of The Last Dance with Russell Wilson and need to shove all their chips into the center of this year’s table. At 3-5 and with Wilson coming back miraculously fast from a bad finger injury, Beckham Jr. would be a power play by Seattle.

Especially given this report that Beckham has interest in the Packers, perhaps teams caught wind of that and altered their waiver plans as a result.

If Beckham does clear waivers, the Browns would save some money against this year’s cap and Beckham would obviously be free to sign with whatever team he wants, which is apparently Green Bay.

The big question is — what version of Odell Beckham is any team going to get?

The one-handed catch Beckham had on Sunday Night Football feels like it was a decade ago. The days of him being a guaranteed 1,000 yards a season and 100 yards a week feel like they happened in an alternate universe.

Playing with Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson? That might rehab Odell Beckham’s stock rather quickly.

It’s not every day a player of Beckham’s caliber hits the waiver wire. There were some unique circumstances that led to his release, but three years ago, it seemed like Cleveland was poised to have one of the top young groups of offensive skill players in the entire NFL.

Beckham was understandably frustrated with his role in Cleveland, and the Browns were understandably frustrated with Beckham’s lack of productivity, inability to stay healthy, and poor attitude when things weren’t going his way.

All things considered, the NFL is about winning. A team that claims or signs Odell Beckham is going to have to be confident it has the foundation and infrastructure to take on his big personality, but Beckham is also going to need to dig deep for some humility and figure out if he wants to be part of a winning team or if he just wants an annual trip to the Pro Bowl because he has great stats.

Playing in Green Bay or Seattle for half a season might not be a bad prescription to get this superstar on the right track.
