New York Jets mock draft, 5th pick: Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota

3rd round, pick 69

After going defense with back-to-back picks in round one, the Jets now spend three straight selections on the offensive side.

Again, what does the handbook say about how to build a roster around your young quarterback?

Thankfully, the New York Jets had already begun investing in the offensive line prior to the selection of Zach Wilson. They signed free agent center Connor McGovern, drafted Mekhi Becton in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and they followed up the Wilson selection by taking left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Here, they get another massive offensive tackle to bookend with Mekhi Becton in Minnesota’s Daniel Faalele.

Consistency in his play might push him to the second day of the draft, but some of Faalele’s best work makes him look like he has a first-round ceiling.

Together, Faalele and Mekhi Becton might make up the biggest duo of offensive tackles in NFL history.

If Faalele can reach his ceiling, Zach Wilson is going to have an absolute mountain range to throw behind for the foreseeable future.
