Denver Broncos mock draft: Starting fresh at quarterback in 2022
The Denver Broncos may be looking at a head coaching change this offseason, as well as a change at QB. Here’s the latest 2022 Broncos mock draft.
Heading into Week 11 action, the Denver Broncos are on a bye week and their record is a respectable 5-5, matching their win total from a season ago.
Although their record is respectable, year three of the Vic Fangio era certainly has a “playoffs or bust” feel to it from a management perspective. The Broncos hired a new GM in 2021 with George Paton coming over from the Minnesota Vikings after a decade of turning down job opportunities elsewhere in the league.
Paton has taken the 2021 season to evaluate the roster and give Vic Fangio the best possible shot at making it to the postseason, but it feels like the team still needs to reset at head coach and quarterback.
Fresh start for the Denver Broncos at QB, head coach in 2022
Right now, it’s tough to know exactly what direction George Paton might go. In his first year on the job as general manager, the most concerted effort he made at acquiring a quarterback that would have solidified the position was asking Lions GM Brad Holmes about the price tag on Matthew Stafford.
If Paton gets the chance to hire his own head coach this coming offseason, that will obviously be a major determining factor in how the Denver Broncos move forward at the quarterback position.
But, once a scout, always a scout.
Paton has been on the scouting trail already this season, attending games in-person for top quarterbacks Kenny Pickett (Pitt), Sam Howell (North Carolina), Matt Corral (Ole Miss), and Malik Willis (Liberty). As a matter of fact, he saw all four of those QBs in person by attending head-to-head matchups between Pitt/UNC and Ole Miss/Liberty.
With the Denver Broncos on a bye week, which players should be on the team’s radar in the 2022 NFL Draft? Here’s a seven-round Broncos mock draft at the bye.
