19th pick – Carolina Panthers: Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh
player. Pittsburgh. Kenny Pickett. 19. 87. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB
Can Carolina Panthers legend Cam Newton prevent this scenario from happening?
That story is yet to be written, but he’s getting a shot anyway.
Kenny Pickett is one of the highest risers in the entire 2022 class at this point. Questions remain about his hand size (apparently just over eight inches with the NFL benchmark around nine), but Pickett’s productivity, accuracy, and intangibles will have NFL coaches and executives falling in love.
The Panthers’ investment in Sam Darnold appears to be a sunk cost. They will likely move on sooner rather than later and Pickett at pick 19 makes sense at the moment.
20th pick – Los Angeles Chargers: Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama
Scouting Report. Alabama. 20. player. Pick Analysis. WR. Jameson Williams. 13
The Los Angeles Chargers need to continue to surround Justin Herbert with the best possible talent, and Jameson Williams has game-altering speed at the wide receiver position.
If the Chargers can somehow find a way to keep Mike Williams and Keenan Allen around for the long-term, adding a player like Williams into the mix would be deadly for opposing defenses.
After 10 games of the 2021 season, Williams has 51 receptions and is averaging over 20 yards per catch. He carries the mantle handed down from a number of elite prospects at the receiver position coming out of the Alabama program in recent years.
