2nd pick – Houston Texans: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

Pick Analysis. Kyle Hamilton. 2. 10. Scouting Report. S. Notre Dame. player

The Houston Texans seem to be automatically penciled in for a quarterback after the Lions take Kayvon Thibodeaux in many mock draft scenarios, but why?

Houston will need a quarterback, yes, but they also used their top pick in this past year’s draft on Davis Mills and they are certainly not going to be in any rush to get a young quarterback in place if the timing is not right.

And right now, the timing is not right.

The Texans have to start building their roster. Year one of the Nick Caserio era has all been an ugly tear-down of what the previous regime had in place, which was not good.

With Deshaun Watson on his way out at some point or another, Houston is likely going to have some additional draft capital in place at some point.

Until that day comes, however, we just have to work with what they’ve got.

Kyle Hamilton is a rare breed at the safety position whose playmaking ability is second-to-none in this year’s draft class. He has outstanding range and plays instinctively, making it seem at times like the Notre Dame defense is operating with 12 guys.

Again, Houston just needs to start building this roster one piece at a time. They can’t really afford to care about positional value — they just need talent.
