NFL: Ranking the worst QB Chemistry in the league: 7. Saints Quarterback to Marquez Callaway – New Orleans Saints
Coming into this season, Marquez Callaway was the hot name for fantasy leagues and for those looking for the next up-and-coming star. It all made sense. Michael Thomas was going to be out for an extended period of time after ankle surgery, which ended up being a season-ending injury. Jameis Winston was taking over as quarterback for Drew Brees. Everything was setting itself up for Callaway to have a huge season.
The Saints never really looked to air it out with Jameis Winston at QB, and now they have Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill under center. The QB position hasn’t been the best, as Sean Payton is making it a point to avoid turnovers. However, that’s hurting the output of its receivers.
Callaway is dealing with one of the worst catch percentages in the league for a number-one guy. He’s been thrown the ball 39 times, but he only has 21 receptions.
He has 309 yards on the season, but it amounts to just 7.9 yards per target. People thought he could be a big-play maker. That didn’t work out, and now the Saints are still in a bad way at the wide receiver position.
