NFL: Ranking the worst QB Chemistry in the league 26. Ben Roethlisberger to Chase Claypool – Pittsburgh Steelers

This one might seem like a surprise because there are times where Chase Claypool makes awesome plays, but with a better quarterback for his skillset, Claypool would be a star. He was highly touted coming out of Notre Dame, and he showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie season. However, Claypool only has one touchdown this season as Ben Roethlisberger looks like a shell of his former self.

Claypool could be a burner on another team or with another quarterback. He is able to put the top off of a defense, but Big Ben just isn’t able to put that kind of strength under the ball anymore. That is forcing Claypool to catch the ball underneath and try to force something to happen.

That’s what Diontae Johnson makes a lot more sense for the Steelers. He is the kind of receiver who can make people miss after he’s already caught the ball. Claypool wants to burn past his competition and get up to catch the ball.

Things are getting worse as time goes on. Claypool has nine catches on 17 targets over the last three games. He only has 92 yards combined over that three-game span. These two would be a great combination in 2009, but in what is likely Roethlisberger’s last year, it’s just not the right fit.
