For the second time this season, the Carolina Panthers thought they had things figured out under center. Cam Newton came back and gave them a huge spark, something they haven’t had since Sam Darnold led them to a 3-0 start.

Newton helped them knock off the Arizona Cardinals and even though they lost to Washington in Week 11, he still played well and had them entering Week 12 with high hopes. He even started out well in this one, tying the game up at seven when he ran in a powerful touchdown. That was a great answer to their special teams giving up a score on a blocked punt.

However, it wasn’t long before we all saw this one was not going to be close. Miami was up 30-10 in the fourth quarter when Newton was pulled for P.J. Walker. The returning star finished 5-of-21 passing with 92 yards and a pick on the day. The only solace for him was that Walker wasn’t any better as he also quickly turned the ball over leading to more points for the Dolphins.

Now at 5-7, the Panthers are in desperation mode — and could have really used a win this weekend. Chances are, there could be some tough answers for this coaching staff following the season as they simply keep going in the wrong direction.
