2021 NFL Bold Prediction No. 5: Myles Garrett breaks the NFL sack record, wins DPOY

Since being taken first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Myles Garrett has been causing issues for opposing quarterbacks. Despite not always having an elite player opposite him, he continues to rack up the sacks. And now that Jadeveon Clowney has been commanding some attention in Cleveland this season, he’s been playing better than ever.

On Sunday Night Football, he recorded sack No. 14 for the Browns which ties the franchise record. He nearly broke it after that as he was all over the backfield but Lamar Jackson is as slippery as they come, so Garrett will have to wait until after the Week 13 bye to break the team record.

Again facing Baltimore, look for him to not only pass the team record but to record multiple sacks. That will set him up for quite a run down the stretch as he is able to puck up nine sacks in the final five games of the season.

That would give him 23 of them, which is more than what Michael Strahan had back in 2001. Garrett is well aware of what it will take and even spoke about doing so ahead of their last game.

With that focus clearly in mind, he accomplishes his goal and in the process, wins the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. Voters often like to give the award to players who are on winning teams and while the Browns might be on the outside of the playoff picture, his individual performance will be too great to ignore.
