NFL: Ranking Quarterbacks who were one-hit wonders: 16. Rex Grossman

Rex Grossman is another player who had multiple fine seasons, but he really only hit with the one big season. He was a spot starter for the first three seasons with the Chicago Bears, but injuries would take out his second and third seasons in the league. His durability was a major question mark, but in 2006 those questions turned into answers. He led the Bears to a 13-3 record and led them to a Super Bowl appearance in his first season as the starter. Of course, the team lost to the Colts, but it seemed like a new era, a positive era, was upon us for Chicago Bears football.

It immediately fell apart the next season. He was eventually benched for an aging Brian Griese, and he never really got the starting job back.

It was a quick fall for Grossman, who was benched just a few games after his disastrous Super Bowl performance. Like other Bears teams before him, the Bears were led by the defense in getting to an NFC Championship.

Grossman eventually played in Washington, and he actually got to be a starter one more time before he retired. He was mostly a backup for the rest of his career. It was strange he was so good for one season after finally staying healthy then completely falling off the map, but it’s how the cookie crumbles sometimes in the NFL.
