NFL: Ranking Quarterbacks who were one-hit wonders: 13. Matt Moore

Matt Moore is a strange one because it seems like the Miami Dolphins went to get multiple small hits on him as their backup. However, he really only had sustained success once. There were times when people actually asked whether he should be the starter over Ryan Tannehill, but the most important season is when he took over for Chad Henne.

Moore has always been able to steal starts. He did it to Jake Delhomme in Carolina, to Henne, Tannehill, and Jay Cutler in Miami, and he was even able to get a few starts in Kansas City when Patrick Mahomes got hurt. The only time he was “the” starter was in 2011.

Moore started 12 games that season, threw for just under 2,500 yards, and had 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He was good enough to be a starter in the league, but Miami elected to keep him and draft Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill ended up winning the starting job in training camp, and Moore didn’t see another game for three seasons.

For one year, the Dolphins were in a decent position because of Moore. He was more of a game manager, but it was better than what Henne was giving them at the time. He was a fun player while it lasted, but the dream of starting really only lasted for 12 games.
