NFL: Ranking Quarterbacks who were one-hit wonders: 1. Tim Tebow

People are still bringing up Tim Tebow. He is the one player in the history of the NFL that splits fans the most. People either love everything this man does and worship’s his every move, or they claim he was never any good and he doesn’t deserve the praise he got for that one season. Tebow was a first-round pick for Josh McDaniels’ Denver Broncos team despite a lot of red flags coming into the league. He had mechanics issues, but he knew how to win after helping lead two national championships at the University of Florida.

He immediately set a jersey sales record before playing a game with the Broncos. He brought a ton of people into the league because of his outspoken Christian faith. He even had his celebration of praying on the field nicknamed “Tebowing”. He was a cultural phenom before he was even one on the football field.

The 2011 season is where his legend grew on the football field. He started the season backing up Kyle Orton. The Broncos started 1-3 and needed a spark. The team started Tebow in halftime of game five, and that’s where he became known for his miraculous comebacks. He brought the Broncos back in that game against the Chargers, ultimately falling short. However, in the next game, he fell down 15-0 only to come back and win against the Miami Dolphins.

Tebow kept winning, beating the Raiders, Chargers, Chiefs, and Jets to get the Broncos back into playoff contention. Most of those games included come-from-behind victories. In the playoffs, he had the biggest “hit” of his career. He beat the Pittsburgh Steelers with a major crossing route to Demaryius Thomas to win the game in overtime. The Broncos were not enough to beat the New England Patriots, but the Broncos were onto something here.

Then, the Broncos signed Peyton Manning. They traded Tebow to the New York Jets, and they were a mess with Mark Sanchez still there. Who knows what happens if Manning isn’t signed in Denver, but the Broncos definitely give him another shot. Maybe he gets a little better under center, but Tebow never turned into anything at the QB position. He was given shot after shot, including a shot to make the New York Mets in baseball and a shot to make the Jaguars as a tight end this season. Forever, Tebow fans will hold onto the fact he was great for one season and led the Broncos to that huge win over the Steelers.
