NFL: Ranking Quarterbacks who were one-hit wonders: 24. Trent Edwards

Now to a one-hit-wonder whose story has been told to completion. Trent Edwards was part of a Bills quarterback carousel that finally ended when Harvard man Ryan Fitzpatrick finally took over the starting job. However, before that happened, Edwards took over as starter when J.P. Losman (more on him later) got injured.

The Bills got the pick they used for Edwards in the Willis McGahee trade. There were some hopes for him out of Stanford, but injuries were his ultimate demise. He did have one interest run in his rookie season when he took over for Losman. He went 4-1 right away before falling off a bit. That one stretch off the bat gave the Bills an idea that Edwards was the right guy under center.

He started the season on fire, going 4-0 before he went down with a concussion. He returned in Week 7 after the team’s bye week. He looked alright at first, but it quickly started to unravel. After a season with so much promise, the Bills missed the playoffs again.

Edwards was given the starting job one more time, but he was completely ineffective and the Bills were bad in 2009. He was traded the next season to the Jaguars, and he was mostly a backup until he retired after a year with the Eagles.
