NFL: Ranking Quarterbacks who were one-hit wonders: 22. Kyle Allen

Ron Rivera loves to bring his Carolina Panthers quarterbacks to the Washington Football Team. Well, everyone besides Cam Newton. He had both Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke in Carolina, and they both ended up starting games in Washington. Allen was considered someone Rivera really liked after what he did in Carolina.

He was able to do a little with little help. His stat line doesn’t look stupendous, but considering the circumstances he was good. He took over for an injured Newton in 2019, and he went for 3,300 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The interception number can be easily explained when one sees he was sacked 46 times in 12 and a half games.

Allen did what he could, and the Panthers then traded Allen to Washington for a fifth-round pick. He started four games for Washington before getting injured, opening the door for Heinicke to become the starter. He’s now the backup to Heinicke, roles they seem to trade throughout their career. Some even clamored for Allen to take over the starting job after Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with an injury this season. For now, he’s still just a one-hit wonder.
