Gardner Minshew came out and had a big game for the Philadelphia Eagles in relief of Jalen Hurts on Sunday. Other teams should regret passing on him.

Sure, it was only one game, and yes, that game was against the New York Jets. That’s not what matters at this point.

What matters is that the offseason process failed a good young quarterback in Gardner Minshew, who came out for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and absolutely had a day.

Leading the Eagles to a 33-18 victory over the Jets, Minshew completed 20-of-25 passes for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

NFL teams should regret not trading for Gardner Minshew

Plenty of teams needed to make a change or upgrade at the quarterback position in the 2021 offseason. The Philadelphia Eagles were certainly one of them, so trading away a late day three draft pick (a conditional 2022 sixth that can escalate to a fifth) was highway robbery in hindsight.

Minshew Mania didn’t last overly long in Jacksonville, although Minshew himself was able to put up rather impressive numbers in his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars kept him in “competition” with Trevor Lawrence all Summer as opposed to trading him early in the offseason, and they likely missed out on some value as a result.

The Eagles made the decision to send a late pick to the Jags for Minshew, a quarterback with two years left on his rookie contract at the time.

A steal, especially considering Minshew had already started 20 games in two NFL seasons.

Then he got the opportunity to start against the Jets on Sunday, and he absolutely killed it. Minshew may not be the conventional type of quarterback you build around, but with what he’s done so far in the NFL completing 63.5 percent of his passes with 39 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions, he should be starting over a lot of the other guys currently taking snaps in the league.

Which teams should regret passing on him the most?

Let’s pick just three.
