NFL teams that regret passing on Gardner Minshew

3. Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears made the playoffs in 2020, which was likely the saving grace for general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy.

Those two are not the most beloved sports figures in Chicago at the moment, and what did they do with their bonus round as the brain trust for the Bears?

They signed Andy Dalton to a one-year deal.

Dalton has not been to the postseason since 2014 with the Cincinnati Bengals. You can blame other circumstances all you want, but for a guy that hasn’t even been to the dance in seven years to come in and be your starter? That’s not a good plan.

Minshew would have been a much cheaper alternative to Dalton with better recent productivity, and you still could have gone after Justin Fields in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Signing Andy Dalton in free agency was just bad process by the Bears’ brain trust, and it has cost them dearly, potentially their jobs when all is said and done.
