player. Pick Analysis. John Metchie. Alabama. 2. 829. Scouting Report. Wide Receiver

Outside of QB, the other biggest weak spot on the Saints roster may be at the receiver position. The only receiver that the Saints had on this roster that was a true quality player was Michael Thomas, but unfortunately for him and the Saints, Thomas underwent ankle surgery in June, it was later revealed in November that he would miss the entirety of the 2021 season.

Even if Thomas didn’t have to undergo ankle surgery before the season started, it’s clear that the Saints desperately needed somebody else outside of Thomas to be a serious receiving weapon.

In recent times, it feels as though Alabama has turned a good amount of quality receivers, namely Jerry Jeudy and Jaylen Waddle in recent times, and now this season, two more receivers are likely going to be joining the NFL ranks, one of them being John Metchie.

When you watch Metchie, one of the things that really jumps off the tape is his route running ability. Metchie explodes out of cuts and can stop on a dime. Not only is he a great route runner, but he can test defensive backs down the field as well.

Now of course he has negatives being that he’s on the thin side of things and can get pushed around a bit, but one of the scarier and recent knocks on him was his ACL tear in Alabama’s conference championship game against Georgia. While Metchie does have some cons and a bit of a health scare, it might be a smart move for New Orleans to take a receiver, despite the concerns.

Other Players Considered: Martin Emmerson, Derion Kendrick, David Bell
