The Green Bay Packers are enjoying their spoils now while they last because the front office and locker room know that familiar faces won’t return for the 2022 NFL season on the defense.

A group that’s really come together in recent weeks is going to be a completely different squad in the not-so-distant future.

With over half the team playing on their final year of an expiring contract, and a current salary cap of -$33 million for 2022 (per Spotrac), fans should prepare themselves for a difficult adjustment on their improved defense.

Enjoy them while you can, because these five free agents on the Green Bay Packers defense won’t return in 2022.

Despite the crude reviews of general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers’ front office, they’ve maintained a firm and constant belief in the abilities of the team they’ve put together.

While quarterback Aaron Rodgers was nearly set to leave the franchise in the summer, Gutekunst and his board worked hard to give him the respect and team he deserves, but it comes at an (expensive) price. One that might cause the future Green Bay Packers to struggle on both sides of the ball. However, if it all results in bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy back home, it’ll all be worthwhile.

The season started out rocky, to say the least, but everyone in the organization has risen up to make the most out of the adversaries they’ve faced and used them to make the team stronger and boast a 9-3 record.

Domination is a word that could be used to describe the Packers’ performance as of late, but due to the upcoming nightmare that looms after this season, there’s reason to believe that the defending NFC North champions will have a hard time defending the crown in 2022 without these five players on the defense.
