Dallas Cowboys free agent who will be gone No. 3: Connor Williams, OG

In 2018, the Dallas Cowboys landed Texas offensive lineman Connor Williams in the second round of the NFL Draft. It was considered by many to be a steal as some had a first-round grade on the offensive tackle.

Once in Dallas, he slid inside and played left guard — joining a line that was widely considered one of the best in the league. Since then, that offensive line has trended in the wrong direction. Anyone claiming they’re in the top-10 is judging them basically on reputation rather than performance.

And that includes Williams, who hasn’t been consistent at all over the past couple of seasons. In recent weeks, this even resulted in him moving to a reserve role as Connor McGovern has taken his job.

Williams continues to have a role and was even seen in Week 14 playing fullback as the Cowboys are trying to pave the way on the ground for Ezekiel Elliot and the rest of the backs.

Even with Williams losing his job, he’s a young offensive lineman with a lot of starting experience. He’s likely to get a better offer in the open market as well as a chance to become a regular starter once again. Look for him to take advantage of that and be out of Dallas in 2022.
