There was some trash talk going back and forth before the matchup between the Washington Football Team and Dallas Cowboys — as there usually is when these two teams go after one another. Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy said his team was going to win the game and Washington had every chance to use this as bulletin board material.

If they did, it didn’t show. The Football Team was down 24-0 at the half and it looked to be a blowout. They do deserve some credit as they fought back and made it 27-20 thanks in large part to a 12-point fourth-quarter but some of that could have been on Dallas for taking their foot off the gas.

For Washington, it was a frustrating loss because they had four wins in a row and a victory here would have put them just one game behind the Cowboys, while also having the head-to-head win in their back pocket. However, they struggled as Taylor Heinicke had two turnovers and was banged up throughout the game. Kyle Allen came in after him and with a seven-point deficit, he too turned the ball over while being sacked by Randy Gregory.

The season isn’t over for Washington but this one surely put it on life support.
