Titans top plays leading to a win

3Q 7:09 – Third Down Pass from Tannehill to Firkser

With the score still 10-0, the Titans were looking for a productive offensive drive to help put the defense’s efforts to justice.

On third and nine from their own 34-yard line, the Titans aligned in a trips formation with tight end Anthony Firkser standing up as the number three receiver.

The Jaguars lined six defenders on the line of scrimmage, but at the snap dropped two of their linebackers into coverage and instead brought a defensive back from the single receiver side free on a pressure. The offensive line did not block this defensive back and he had a free shot at Tannehill.

However, Tannehill was able to run right out of the pocket and deliver a perfect sidearm pass as he was tripped to the ground to Firkser on an out-breaking route 10 yards down the field.

This pivotal third-down completion exhibited Tannehill’s athleticism once again in a situation facing pressure. Later on the drive, Tannehill scored a five-yard rushing touchdown on a scramble to put the game away.

The Tennessee Titans ran the ball well and played astounding defense. That recipe is certainly apt for the playoffs and sets a strong foundation as the Titans enter their last five games of the season. Although not a perfect game and against a franchise with serious issues, the Titans are getting healthy again and maintaining their identity which has taken them to the playoffs the past two seasons.
