New Orleans Saints free agent QB options for 2022

3. Marcus Mariota (Raiders)

For the last couple of seasons, Marcus Mariota has been attempting to rehab his value in Las Vegas with the Raiders, making a nice income-tax-free salary as Derek Carr’s backup.

The Saints would need to run a very rush-heavy offensive attack with Mariota as the quarterback, but they undoubtedly have the personnel to do so. They are one of the most logical fits for Mariota given the way they have utilized Taysom Hill in their offense and the plays they already have designed for a player with Mariota’s skill set.

the former first-round pick — taken just one selection behind Jameis Winston in 2015 — would have a pretty good chance of rehabbing his career in New Orleans, in my opinion.

Injuries have really been arguably the biggest reason for Mariota’s inability to progress throughout his career, which looked extremely promising early on.

The appeal here is that the Saints could likely sign a player like Mariota for a very reasonable price and given their salary cap situation, that might be a wise approach.

Even if the New Orleans Saints strike out on someone like Russell Wilson, they should have intriguing options in 2022 free agency.
