Houston Texans 2022 mock draft: Evan Neal, OT, Alabama

With their first pick in this 2022 mock draft scenario, the Houston Texans snag Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal.

If the Texans keep the third overall pick as they have at the time this mock draft is being written, what are they going to do if Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux are the top two picks in the class?

That presents them with a unique situation. There is not really a clear QB1 in this class that would be a QB1 across multiple classes of players. Not only is there no Trevor Lawrence or Andrew Luck type of guy, there’s also really no Trey Lance or Zach Wilson type.

With all due respect to Matt Corral, who has had an outstanding year overall, as well as Kenny Pickett of Pitt, this is just not the year for the Houston Texans to commit long-term to a QB.

Thus, they must start building toward the future and making their future quarterback’s life a lot easier.

Evan Neal will help accomplish that. Not only that, but Neal will also be able to give the Texans a player who can really help push this team forward with a run-first identity.
