Houston Texans 2022 mock draft: Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn

The Houston Texans can’t really afford to be super picky in this particular draft about what position groups they choose to target with their picks.

Obviously, the more picks early on, the merrier. This team has to address literally every position group on the roster moving forward, so attacking premium positions early on is not a bad idea.

The cornerback position for the Texans in recent years has been a bit of a wasteland for high draft choices. A player like Roger McCreary could turn that around sooner rather than later.

At this point in time, McCreary is still projected in the early portion of the second round of mock draft machines, but that could change in a hurry. He was a first-team All-American this year and has been outstanding for Auburn for the last three years.

He’s got 14 passes defensed and a pair of interceptions this season.

A player like McCreary is a piece for the secondary you can truly hang your hat on. If he’s not a top-20 pick when all is said and done, that might be a bit surprising, but we’re taking advantage of the mock draft machine for the time being.

This gives the Houston Texans three pieces from two major SEC programs that fill huge needs on the roster.
