Houston Texans 2022 mock draft: Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State

I recently had Trey McBride as the last pick of the first round in my most recent 2022 NFL mock draft scenario, but the machine sometimes spits things out a little differently.

Over the course of the college All-Star process, workout process, Combine, etc., I think we’re going to see McBride’s name get a little (maybe a lot) more respect than it has up to this point.

This guy is about as “five tool” as it comes at the tight end position, with absolutely exceptional tape not only as a receiver but as a blocker.

McBride buries people in the running game like he’s auditioning for a part in The Blind Side. He makes plays on the ball as a receiver that have you saying…George Kittle?

After the catch, he’s a beast.

Straight up, it would be shocking if the Texans were able to land a player like McBride in the middle of round two, but you never know.

This selection is the other one coming from Pittsburgh in this mock draft scenario, and it rounds out a very nice top four in the first two rounds for Houston:

  • Evan Neal, OT, Alabama
  • Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama
  • Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn
  • Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State

This top four not only adds some much-needed firepower to the offensive skill positions, but gives the Texans a key piece in the secondary to build around.
