Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder needs to sell after yet another controversy.

Look, this isn’t a new idea. For years now, fans have been hoping Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder would sell his ownership of the team. However, for a while it felt more like fans just wanted it because the team wasn’t winning under his ownership. Over the last few years though, the reasons have changed as Snyder keeps finding himself involved in different controversies.

In the summer of 2020, we all started to hear a lot about the sexual harassment allegations surrounding the Washington Football Team organization. There were allegations against Dan Snyder, as well as a lot of other higher-ups in the organization. It led to quite a few changes to the front office. Snyder held on to his ownership though, despite rumors that the minority owners (Snyder holds the majority stake) were trying to get him to sell.

According to Will Hobson and Liz Clarke of the Washington Post, more information has come to light about the situation. It appears that Snyder was working to derail the investigation. This included taking former employees to court, attempting to block an accuser from interviews, and using private investigators.

No more excuses, Dan Snyder needs to sell the Washington Football Team completely. Get out.

To be clear, I wasn’t making excuses for him before. I’ve said plenty of times in the past he needs to sell. Now though, it’s hard to see how even he could find a way to defend these new findings.

The one thing that I would go back to when it was more just “he’s running the team into the ground” was that he was a fan. I would say that if I was a billionaire, I would want to own my favorite team too. Who wouldn’t? It would be hard to admit that you’re hurting the organization or making the wrong moves.

It shouldn’t be hard for Snyder to look in the mirror and see the terrible things he’s done though. And we’re not talking about bad decisions with the coaching staff or players or taking too long to change the name (although that wasn’t great either). We’re talking about the disgusting things he’s done as a person. Using your power to sexually harass someone and to try and cover it up deserves more than just losing your team (which let’s be honest he’ll probably make a ridiculous amount of money selling the team so is it even really a punishment?)

That’s probably the “worst” that will happen to him though, and it’s much better than he deserves. I could say a lot more about the allegations and how disgusting he is. But this is supposed to be a football website, so I’ll try to stick to the football side of things more.

If Snyder is truly a fan of the team and wants what’s best for them. He’ll sell. He will do it quickly and leave without much fanfare. The Washington Football Team hasn’t won in a long time, honestly, I can forgive an owner for that as long as they show they are passionate and actually care.

I can’t forgive what Snyder has done though. He’s created a disgusting, toxic, terrible environment. He’s abused his power. It hurts the team in a lot of different ways. Making it harder to hire people, bring in players, new fans, etc. But most importantly, he’s hurt a lot of people.

This might sound like a “preachy” article. But is there anyone out there that’s really defending him? I can’t imagine there are. So who cares.

Dan Snyder, sell the team and get out of Washington. Don’t make it so fans feel bad about rooting for their favorite team because the owner is a garbage human, thanks.
